Antique Persian Zigler Sultanabad Rug 26466

A mulled indigo ground brings gravitas to spring tones of ivory, pink, red, gold, brown and olive green in this charming antique Ziegler Sultanabad. The allover field pattern is a herati design of palmettes, rosettes and lanceolate leaves. The composition is framed by a series of meander guards and an intricate herati border on a barn-red ground. Areas of etched pile evoke the wabi-sabi poetics of time. This design was produced by Ziegler & Co., a British firm which established a Sultanabad-based manufacture of rugs for European markets in the late 19th and early 20th century.
